VISION SCREENING
Every year Lion Sam Fisk organizes our Vision Screening Program. As the Ewa Beach Lions Club's Vision Screening Chairman, Lion Sam's responsibility is to manage the overall vision screening program for schools (public; private; preschools and elementary schools) located on the Ewa Plain. He trains volunteers in other Lions Clubs to provide this service in their areas. He is also the Lions Club Zone 50 Vision Screening Coordinator and he works cooperatively with the Kapolei City Lions Club and Project Vision Hawaii, (a non-profit foundation serving the vision needs of the elderly and youth). He has trained various community Lions Clubs on how to organize a vision screening in their areas using a Plusoptix S12 portable autorefractor. He also conducts vision screening training to the Learning Disability Association staff. During the 2015 - 2016 academic year 687 children received eye screening with 73 being referred for follow-up eye care. The number of schools serviced was 10. During the 2017 - 2018 academic year 1205 children were screened - 156 were referred for follow-up eye care. In the 1st quarter of 2013 - 2014 year, 321 children have been screened, 30 were identified and recommended for follow up with their eye doctors.
